Next time, don't save it is JPG. PNG comes out clearer.

Well, you must have had it as JPG at one point, otherwise the colors would not look like that on the tail. It's not flat colors, it lost information and looks messed up.

All pictures uploaded to dA are converted to .jpg/.jpeg for display on the site.

This is false. That is FA that does this. This is MSPaint's shitty .jpeg format. I have uploaded work to this site for 7 and a half years, and my .png formats come out nice and clear.

I had it happening a while ago to one of my pictures. I am not sure what format I used to upload back then, but it was converted to .JPG.
Is it possible that just specific formats become converted? Or maybe when the file hits a certain size?

Then why can I download things as PNG?
Why do PNG files I see on here have clear-cut colors with none of that lost information that results in patchy coloring?

The original file stays on the server for downloading, only the one that is displayed on the page is a .jpeg.

The ones I linked to don't look like JPEG. I can right-click and hit SAVE AS... and it will say .PNG
